Road Trip - Day 1: Leaving Early!

Being the spontaneous people we are, we left on our road trip a day early! That's right. We decided since our first day of driving was going to be such a long one we would get a jump on it by leaving early. It was 7:00 p.m. by the time we pulled out of the driveway last night, then we had a couple of errands to run and dinner to grab on the way out of town.

We thought we would drive at least halfway to St. Louis, our first significant stop on the trip. Springfield, Missouri fit the bill, so we drove until 11:30 last night to a Red Roof Inn where we unloaded just the essentials and fell into bed.

We all slept pretty good considering the late hour we arrived and being in a new place. I have a feeling we will have to get used to being in a different hotel almost every night!

The one "claim to fame" we spotted last night on the first leg of our trip was the world's largest McDonald's located in none other than Vinita, Oklahoma. Jenna was thoroughly amazed by it. (I told her that if she was amazed by that, I couldn't wait to see her response to Niagara Falls!)

Today we are headed to St. Louis after a predictable stop at Wal-Mart for those essentials we forgot. :/

We managed to accomplish a little school work in the room this morning. Both the kids started their official road-trip journals, decorating the cover page and writing their first entry. They were able to get their math done, as well as a little geography, and they will complete the rest as we go today.
